learn to love the process

There’s always a process….nothing of value comes easily or is just handed to you. ⠀

Why? Because gifts, rewards, wealth….all the good things can take you to a place that your character can’t keep you. ⠀

Developing character is a process. One that comes through trial and error. A process that we need to lean into. When we succeed, we need character to stay humble and discipline to look ahead at what’s next. When we fail, we need character to dig deep, try something new and keep going. ⠀

I’m 30 today. I’m not where I thought I’d be at in life. In some ways, my life is far better than what I imaged and in others…I look at the list of unmet goals and feel like I’ve failed. I’ve chosen to fail forward though. I’ll dig in and try something new and keep trying as long as it takes. I feel like I’m up to my shoulders in the “process,” and wondering how’s this going to turn out. ⠀

Sometimes I think the not knowing how things will turn out is the greatest blessing. Because if we knew, would we dare to try something that wouldn’t work? Most likely not, we wouldn’t see the value in a lesson learned from a coming failure. ⠀

The process, the lessons learned…they are absolutely invaluable and necessary for us to develop the character we need, not only to succeed, but to stay there. ⠀

Learn to love the process friends, whatever that is for you. Share with someone who needs to hear this!

This boy 💙 ⠀

He’s the sweet boy who made me an Aunt. He has a heart of gold and today I got to be there to see a long time dream of his come true. ⠀

He’s a dreamer….that’s for sure and he’s got the confidence, intelligence and motivation to go after them and make them happen. ⠀

I’m so blessed to live the life I live and to have the job I have that I can be there for the important stuff. ⠀

Today was important, it was a special moment in his life that we will all treasure. I am so proud of this handsome young man and excited to see what’s next for Drayton David Swindler.

i hope you fail right here in front of me

This boy 💙

He’s 11….growing and learning and trying new things.

I want opportunity for him. He’ll fail at things, he’ll win at things.

As mom I want to run in and save him from failure…but I can’t. If I do, I rob him of the opportunity to learn from failure and move on from that point. A lesson that if learned, will carry him through every risk he takes in life.

He’ll know how to try and fail, and keep on trying. He’ll know what winning feels like and how to stay humble. He’ll care for others and respect authority.

The character he is developing right before my eyes is the greatest blessing.
So grateful that I get to live the life I do.
