Kids these days…

I’m starting this off with a good ole’ reminiscing of the 90s, as so many people do, but just go with me for a minute. Think back to the 90s, especially if you were a kid in the 90s.

Remember Slap Bracelets and how much trouble we’d get in for slapping other people with them? I remember putting them around my pony tale or taking the outside cover off to find that the metal was like a cut up tape measure…and to think all that time I thought they were magic.

Trick or Treating, Gunfire and a Stranger in our House.

Well this has been a weekend for the books. A weekend I will remember and treasure for the rest of my life.

It started with Halloween on Friday night. The holiday began as usual, keeping to our Halloween tradition. My sister-in-law and I always take our boys out Trick or Treating together. Our boys are five months apart, Drayton being older than Matthew. Drayton is a Ninja and Matthew is Iron Man.

BOO…On a Budget

Halloween isn’t really a big deal in our family. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Halloween candy, and even more, I love getting it for FREE! The best way to get some free candy is to dress my kid up and take him all around town. LOL, Is that even right?

Anyway, we don’t make a big deal about Halloween. My son has never had a costume that we have bought!

One year, my Aunt Mandi gave us an adorable Lion costume and my son went out with his matching Scentsy Buddy.

Another year he wore a pair of Batman Pajamas that, again, my Aunt Mandi bought for him for his birthday.

One Halloween, we were hours from the event and still had no costume, we went with a hunter! LOL

Last year he wanted to be a Ninja, so I dug out my old taekwondo uniform and made it work.

This year Matthew has decided to be Iron Man. Which is perfect, because his Grandma Renee got him an Iron Man mask a couple of years ago for his birthday. He can wear that along with his chest protector, and he’s all set!

Halloween is one day a year. Don’t break the family budget on costumes for your kids. Get creative, go to Pinterest and have some fun with it. You don’t need to know how to sew to make your own Halloween costumes. Just use your resources. I am happy to say that we have never spent a single penny on buying a Halloween costume. Instead, I save that money to raid Wal-Mart immediately following 😉

Have a Happy & Safe Halloween,
Kendra Lewis
